The variety of stuff in our art museums is a reflection of our
civilization's
belief in the availability of options and the freedom to choose them.

Though this freedom is often at the expense of others and their ways of life

But the specific pieces that have been chosen can only be called a reflection
on the aesthetic taste of various curators and collectors.
(and reflects little else about  their "economic, social, and cultural
circumstances" - other than that they could afford to buy what they wanted)

this last is utter nonsense - its the type of things I hear form
underrgraduates who are just becoming socially aware - and I guest they get it
from people like you who aren't aware
