Why is important to distinguish art from non art.? (an issue raised in the
thread about Worringer)

For Saul, art symbolizes our moment in time, so that we may all better
understand it and act accordingly.

For Michael, art is a category of things to which are attached certain rules.
Don't brush away the pile leaves if they're on the floor of an art gallery,
and instead, try to relate them to canonical art history and its various
issues.

So, we might say that Saul wants to participate in the dynamic process of
historical/cultural/intellectual change, while Michael just wants to do and
think what he is supposed to.

Saul is the perpetual revolutionary, Michael is the perpetual school boy.

Although we still might ask whether Saul's approach can ever achieve
revolution, or Michael's approach can ever achieve learning.
