I have a question: In Peircean philosophy, how is the notion or
process of mapping (of correlating one idea with another, or an idea
with an external object) developed and explained?
Not a trick question! I know Peirce was a cartographer for the U.S.
Geodetic Survey, and developed a quincuncial projection.
I'm interested in the mental or conceptual process of associating two
things such that one represents the other and "is mapped onto" the
other.
