While art - both critical and popular are penetrable by many different methodologies - ie the success of lacanians in addressing films of all kinds - it would be an abandonment of the philosophical project to basically surrender it to sociology or for that matter to cognitive sci - my understanding of the philosophical project at this point is to reflexively address critically the methods by which we might address an object as a source of or a product of knowledge - this is because our being subject is the object of philosophy

Or between an art that's trying to establish conventions and one that trying to attack them? If we abandon the search for similarity, we remove the justification for something called an "art museum" or an "art school".
