Thanks for kicking this off, Kate. I've ordered a copy but may not receive it
for another week or so.
**************
Since this is the introduction, I'm wondering whether Berger ever gets around
to defining "the act of posing".
Does he say that it is limited to what we might call 'body language"?
Does it also include the poser's facial expression , choice of garment,
objects held, or whatever is in the background?
Might it even include how the poser is lit (soft or hard) or the color scheme
of the entire painting?
Does Berger suggest how we might distinguish the act of posing from the act of
painting?
