Aesthetic traditionalists, conservatives, tea party types like traditional art because they think they can predict what it will be next; they hate innovative art because they can't predict what it will be next. They assume that what they can't predict must be evil or crazy or vulgar or tasteless or decadent . Good artists can't predict what they will do next; bad artists always can.
