Subject: art and speech or writing

If you had to choose, do you think visual art is more like speech or like
writing? Why?

Approaching this dichotomously seems to miss something important. It just depends.

Writing - fixed, static, separated from the world (this doesn't hold for James Joyce, but I had in mind expository writing)

Michelangelo Buonarroti exemplifies what I associate with writing.

Speech - fluid, open, responsive to the world as it occurs, sensuous (you can hear the intake of breath, and saliva on lips)

DuChamp's "Nude Descending a Staircase, No 2" exemplifies what I associate with speech.
