Some years ago I read a short item that said that zebra stripes help protect them because they made the lions dizzy when they were chased. It sounded a bit loopy to me, but this may help explain it. BTW, when I watched the illusion at the web site, I stared at the green spot and the yellow spots did seem to disappear. The same thing happened when I stared at one of the yellow dots: one of the other two yellow dots disappeared momentarily, but not the green one.
