These two-month fellowships provide an opportunity to pursue individual research in Germany while participating in the academic life in one of Germanybs major historical research centres. Founded in 1992, the ZZF covers a broad scope of Contemporary European History with currently five research departments that range from bCommunism and Societyb, bEconomic and Social Change during the Twentieth Centuryb and bChanging Concepts of the Politicalb to bRegimes of the Social Sphereb and bContemporary History in the Age of Media and Informationb. The ZZF library holds approx. 78,000 items and subscribes to more than 100 periodicals. Since 2009 the ZZF is a full member of the Leibniz-Gemeinschaft (WGL). Applicants must have at least postdoctoral status with an outstanding academic record. They are expected to pursue their own research. However applicants whose interests relate to the research departments at the ZZF will be preferred. Fellowship holders will be assigned to a research department and asked to present their current project in a seminar or colloquium. The Leibniz Summer Fellowships carry a monthly grant of about 3.000 b,. The funding is supposed to cover all expenses including travel, housing, and insurance. Fellows are expected to reside in Berlin or Potsdam for two consecutive months between April and October 2013. The ZZF will provide office space and other relevant facilities. The application deadline is January 31, 2013. Decisions will be announced no later than February 28, 2013. Applications can be in English or German and must include a letter of interest; a curriculum vitae (including a list of publications); a project proposal not exceeding 1,500 words; a letter of recommendation (under separate cover).
