Dominic McIverLopes, University of British ColumbiaJesse Prinz,
CityUniversity of New YorkB Dominic McIver Lopesis Distinguished University Scholar and Professor
in the Department ofPhilosophy at the University of British Columbia.
He works mainly in aestheticsand is a member of the UBC aesthetics
group. His research focusses on pictorialrepresentation and perception;
the aesthetic and epistemic value of pictures,including scientific
images; theories of art and its value; the ontology ofart; and computer
art and new art forms. He is the author of several books: A Philosophy
of Computer Art (2009), Sight and Sensibility: Evaluating
Pictures(2005), Understanding Pictures(1996), as well as of a number of
articles in prestigious journals. Lopes is Presidentof the American
Society for Aesthetics (2013-15). He is also a member of theExecutive
Committee of the British Society of Aesthetics, Secretary-Treasurerof
the American Philosophical Association Pacific Division, a member of
theEditorial Board of the Journal ofAesthetics and Art Criticism, and
co-editor (with Berys Gaut) ofWiley-Blackwellbs New Directions in
Aesthetics book series. B Jesse Prinz is a Distinguished Professor of
philosophy and director ofthe Committee for Interdisciplinary Science
Studies at the City University ofNew York, Graduate Center. Prinz works
primarily in the philosophy of psychologyand has authored several
books, among others Furnishing the Mind: Concepts and Their Perceptual
Basis (2002), Gut Reactions: A Perceptual Theory ofEmotion (2004), The
EmotionalConstruction of Morals (2007), BeyondHuman Nature (2012), and
over 100 articles, addressing such topics asemotion, moral psychology,
aesthetics and consciousness. Much of his work inthese areas has been a
defense of empiricism against psychological nativism,and he situates
his work as in the naturalistic tradition. Prinz is also anadvocate of
experimental philosophy. He is currently working on a book
entitledWorks of Wonder: The Psychology andOntology of Art (OUP,
forthcoming).B CALL FOR PAPERSB Submission of abstracts:
Authors are invited to submit abstracts of papers in English that they
wish topresent at the conference. Each presentation will be given 40
minutes,including time for discussion (thetalk itself should not exceed
30 minutes).

Abstracts should be printed on one page with single line-space, 12
points fontsize and must not exceed 1000 characters (including spaces).
The abstract pageshould include the name of the author, her or his
affiliation, the title of thepaper. It is desirable that the abstract
provides an outline of the argumentsgiven in the paper, and not just
the theses argued for.

The abstract should be sent electronically as an attachment to

Deadline for submission ofabstracts: 15 May, 2013.
All abstracts will be blind reviewed. Authors will be notified by 31
