SFPs have a wideband receive. They listen to anything sent to them, not just a specific channel.
Also, yes, they have passive splitters called OADMs. ----- Mike Hammett Intelligent Computing Solutions Midwest Internet Exchange The Brothers WISP ----- Original Message ----- From: "Adam Moffett" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, October 10, 2018 11:39:15 AM Subject: [AFMUG] Dumb Fiber MUX question Can I use a splitter instead of a Mux/Demux? I'm just thinking if I have color coded SFP's that only talk and listen on their own wavelengths, and assuming I'm ok with the losses from splitters, then do I actually need a Mux? I'm looking at a scenario where I could have a Mux at one end of a fiber, but I don't have electric at the point where I'd like to split it back into two connections. That's what got me wondering.
