I am happy with ESET, it doesn’t cost enough to worry about free/freemium vs paid. If you just get the basic AV version it’s $40/yr and $10 for each additional PC, also discounts for multiyear. It pretty much stays in the background and does its thing. Years ago I had Norton AV and it was very annoying.
