I drove past Prospect Mountain tonight on my way to see "Ralph Breaks The Internet".  As I remembered what the NY DOT has done there I felt bad for trash talking them earlier today.

This is a highway interchange terraced on the side of a mountain.

In 2012-2013 they blasted 40 feet off the side of the mountainside, shifted all the lanes over to make the turn more gentle, and built 4 bridges.  Oh and they covered the exposed rock face with a concrete retaining wall which must be 50-60 feet high.  It was several more years monkeying with lighting and landscaping and sound barriers, but the major stuff was done in two construction seasons.  I can't even fathom organizing a project of that magnitude.

I hate trying to follow all of their stupid rules, but I have utmost respect for the fact that they literally move mountains.  There. Conscience clear.
