It might let you carry a PON to a remote place without installing
another ONT in the remote place. You'd have to check your math before
you put a splitter in between the ethernet interfaces though. One more
tool in the box I guess.
An IRU is exactly what got me wondering. I was thinking how many fibers
I might need.

Yep - we have a single fiber IRU we run multiple 10Gb waves as
well as GPON on. Works fine and let us inexpensively light up a
couple of GPON customers using the existing PON shelf.
