The question is what will he be doing with it? Spreadsheets and grading homework? Or video editing for youtube with lots of 4k footage? 8gigs RAM is at least the minimum for any box I think. If he is looking for for something high end, I would suggest craigslist. Otherwise Apple is gonna be pricey no matter what.
