Yeah, I have an airtv... it works and it's cheap. the biggest problem with it,
is that it can't pause live tv. other than that, it works reasonably well.

Cheap enough. View with a Roku. No subscription.

  We will see...

The channelmaster looks good, but it would have to be located far away from
the monitor I normally view things on. Not sure how the chromecast function
would work.

We have had the original ChannelMaster DVR, and now the DVR+ for many years.
As long as you can live with 2 tuners (plus whatever you may or may not be
playing) it does the job. It has additional internet/streaming "channels", but
they never fleshed out the functionality, so we've never used them. The only
thing I wish it would do is allow us to stream to other devices on the internal
network.

Rather have a widget than an app on a computer.

Don’t mind high start up costs, I mind a monthly payment.

My tivo bolt died and it appears they no longer have an offering without
subscription.

    Lifetime Plex + Hd Homerun
(https://www.silicondust.com/product/hdhomerun-quatro/). Start up cost is a bit
high, considering you need to run Plex on a computer or NAS device that
supports it. Also see:
https://support.plex.tv/articles/226463767-frequently-asked-questions-dvr-live-tv/
 - Full Roku functionality seems to still be in development (preview version
available to be able to setup/manage recordings).

There is several others that are more in-depth to setup, but it works for
me.

Back to my search for a subscription free OTA DVR that will stream to
Roku. Is there such a beast?
