How long till US Mail figures out it’s cheaper to sent their mail over Amazon’s transport?
 Sure, why not? :) Everybody wins.

Outsourcing to a more cost effective provider is already a thing, in the sense that Fedex uses USPS as the last mile provider for some deliveries.
