I'm not sure they were traditional guy wires. Each of those joints in the guy line was an insulator, so each section of guy was only several feet long. And I wouldn't be surprised if it they were more like a ceramic, or some rigid connector between insulators. Given there were only 2 sets of guys on a 700' tower. They must have been fairly large in diameter, that's a lot of weight that would have to snap around.
