I had dinner at the Louis XV. Arguably the finest restaurant on the planet according to things I have read online. I actually went online to research how to behave.
They said that housekeeping had a jacket for me. I was expecting something from the lost and found closet. It looked brand new, dry cleaned, pressed, in the dry cleaning bag. It even fit. And it looked great. I was really full of anxiety being somewhat of a country mouse in the city (as one of my grandsons is fond of saying) but they made it a very enjoyable experience. 12 tables in a very fancy room. At least 12-14 people working that room. 3 wine guys. One head waiter. Multiple servers. 2 cheese girls etc. We lost count at how many different times we were served, we think 9. And we skipped the cheese girl. Even after we were full and put our napkins on the table we still got a chocolate plate and then a sorbet. I was worried at having to navigate 14 tools to eat but they brought you only what you needed to eat each individual plate. So there was no place setting. Not being wine drinkers, we skipped all that but we watched the process happening. The head wine dude sampled each bottle before it was presented to the table There was a mini wine workstation for each 2-3 tables. The secondary wine dudes kept the bottles at the work station but were out making sure all the wine glasses were 1/3rd full at all times. Secondary wine dude kept us topped off with water. 10 euros per bottle. So for the two of us it was $429 and would have been double that if wine had been ordered. But it was fun and they did not make us feel like country bumpkins at all. I would recommend it if you ever have the chance. Each course was amazing. The most amazing thing we tasted oddly enough was the butter. From Brittany. But everything, including the salt and pepper for the bread and butter were amazing. I had the scallops. They were the best I have ever tasted, however the Red Iguana used to have a mixed seafood platter with scallops that are a close second. And my wife’s are just about as good as that. I feel all fancy now. Kinda like Jed Clampitt. I think they have a concrete swimmin’ hole here in the hotel too.
