Reliability and redundancy.  If all your route reflectors go down, your entire network is down.  This is assuming you're using BGP for internal subnet distribution, and using OSPF only for the mesh of links between routers (which is IMO the most reliable setup.) We had two dedicated routers in different physical locations that did nothing but that.

I've been using my edge routers as route reflectors.  Can someone fill me in on what I would gain by using a dedicated box for that purpose?  It would be easy enough to change, but I'm not sure why I would.
