If you only use shallow devices, you can rack mount normally in a 10 inch deep 
box, like a 24x32x10 Hoffman enclosure, and still have enough room for the 
cables to bend comfortably.  APC shelves are no problem, I think the deepest 
piece of electronics I’ve gotten into them is a Mikrotik RB1100AHx4.  I think I 
cheated and used 1/4 inch spacers.  This was with a standard wallmount patch 
panel bracket from someplace like StarTech.  We put rackmount equipment in the 
top of the box and DIN rail stuff in the bottom.  This is using a backplate.

rackit macke hinged wall mounts. I have put a piano hinge on, theres just to 
way to comfortable rack mount. im mounting sideways now in our 30x30x10, i hate

I wouldn't mind a box like the one in this picture, but I'd feel a lot better 
about it if the top was removable for access.  I dare anybody to put three 
devices in that rack and try to reach cables on the rear one.
