Final spam from me I swear.

I'm in that 150 foot "heavy" ice loading area that you see on page 2.  Even here people hang them a lot farther than 150 feet. The issue I've seen with going too far is the plastic parts of the cable can stretch a lot more than the glass.  So as load changes the glass fibers will try to pull in and out of your cases while the plastic just stretches.

When you search for hanger hardware, the first thing you'll find is wedge clamps.  Those are ok under light load, but the grips that spiral wrap around the cable are like an order of magnitude more durable.
