I guess I'm only left with a notion in my head that melting the glass together just seems like it ought to be better than butting the ends together.  Plus the process has "fusion" in it's name and that sound badass.  Like stand back Mr Customer, there's fusion going on over here and you don't have a protective hat on.

You should really consider whether those mechanical splices are worth going against my feelings.

Be a badass, use the fusion splicer.  COBRA KAI!!

I suppose if you screw up the fusion splice you'll see it on the camera.  If you screwed up the mechanical splice you might not know unless you shoot it with the OTDR.
