elitist.

It doesn't help that reality pretty much sucks right now. Can you blame people

I just call it influencing. (Or influenzing?)

You are the perpetual troll Chuck.

Whether you believe Tik Tok or Wechat are portals to China's cyber back door or
not, this approach of doing whack-an-app (think like whack a
mole) is probably the wrong way to do it. There is probably a more global way
of dealing with this type of threat (or perceived threat).

Banning WeChat is probably more consequential, it's used for real
things, not just silly dance videos. And of course we can expect
China to retaliate against US companies. This feels like Rockem Sockem Robots.

Tick Tock the crocodile seems like a much bigger threat. Known hand
(and
clock) eater.

But yeah, the app stores location data, and the Chinese government
could get hold of it. Hold on there, that's OUR government's job.
Good thing other social media apps like Facebook don't store location data.
</sarcasm>

I saw a review of Reels, the competitor to TikTok that
Facebook/Instagram took 2 years to develop, on a tech site. The
review basically said Reels sucked in comparison, and that TikTok was
a well designed app, well targeted to what the user and creator
community wanted. How dare they succeed by designing something people like.

So you could say that US social media companies can't come up with a
better product, so ban the competition. But it's probably more
accurate to say it's an election year.

I don’t even really understand what the threat is.

I downloaded tiktok to see what all the fuss was about.

All I saw were folks in various states of disrobement dancing to music.

What national security issue is this?
