It depends on whether you value keeping the equipment running over the lifetime
of the battery. I would typically set them for 40 volts in a 48 volt system.
Lots of things will keep running down that low. But that is lower than you
want for maximum battery lift.

But, this almost never fires in an area with reliable AC power for charging.
If your AC is so unreliable that the LVD is used a couple of times a month, you
need a back up generator.

I used to believe in LVDs but I don’t any more. Why pick an arbitrary point
where you system will shut down? I would rather just let it run as long as
possible while scrambling to dispatch a portable generator to the area.

And then there is the problem of the LVD reset when the rectifiers kick back
on. Sometimes it is difficult to wire them up so that will happen. The power
comes back on, the batts start to charge, then the LVD reconnects the load. If
the batts are too small the voltage will drop the the LVD will disconnect
again. You can have it oscillate if you don’t have enough hysteresis in the
LVD.

But hysteresis delays your load coming back on. That is a very undesirable
thing.

Like I said, not a fan...

Team,

How do I properly calculate the lowest LVD voltage for a batt bank?
