I agree but I have worked in telco C.O. for more than 4 decades.  Batts right 
in the same room as switching equipment in many cases.  Also lots of remotes 
have batts in a tray at the bottom or in a cabinet to the side that is not 
isolated from air flow.  

You would think it would cause a problem.  I would bet on it but I have never 
seen a problem traced to batt vapors.

Is it a good idea to include batteries in same box with electronics?  I've 
always had corrosion problems with this.  I'd suggest separate boxes for 
batteries.
