You can sharpen them with a steel angle point and they will still drill wood 
just fine but probably last a lot longer.
I guess back in the day I was sharpening mine and I always put a steel angle on 
them.

They are wood bits, you should pre-drill anything that isn't wood first. 
Hopefully you can find something better, but if it has the sharp tapered tip 
it's only for wood.
