A few years ago I was talking with a guy who worked for International.
He said they were not going after fully self driving trucks, but more of
a follow the leader setup, where there would be a guy driving a lead
truck, and then 3 or 4 other trucks would autonomously follow it.
Wonder whatever happened to that.
I could see that working driving for hours on end across the plains, but
not in cities.
Don't I remember hearing that most of the driving around the container
docks to stage the containers is all fully autonomous now?

I have a class A cdl. It tempts me. Auto trans and gps it might be
fun for a few months. All my trucks are manual. I would not like a
solid diet if that. My first dump truck also had a 3 speed brownie.
Took a he man to drive that beast. Only time I experienced a total
loss of air in traffic. Not fun. That and blowouts take the fun out
of things.

I know nothing about trucking, is $6k/week good? If you have to
buy your own $200k rig, and pay for your own fuel and insurance, that
would get eaten into quick.
14 hours of driving at an average of 60mph is 840 Miles/day
figure 8 MPG ( totally guessing) 105 gallons/day. Our diesel price
is about $3.30 as of today, so that's $340/day of fuel. 6 days of
driving is $2k of that $6K gone.

At a trucking firm in chicago we just passed: 36 an hour fleet

I wonder what intermodal transport is paying for docks in california.
Tempted to get a cdl, but I'm not partial to meth.

I would probably not drive a forklift for $12 an hour even as of
2 years ago. I did better than that delivering pizza 20 years ago.
Maybe they were advertising $12, but I bet they weren't filling
those positions at $12.

Same place, 2 years ago, $12

That's not all that out of the ordinary for seasonal material
handlers. They pay more outward since they dont have benefits
