There was the rise of yellow journalism around 1900 using sensationalism to
boost circulation.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellow_journalism

I think tabloids like the National Enquirer follow in those footsteps, there
are also the British tabloids with stuff like phone hacking scandals.

I remember in the movie Men In Black it turns out they get all the real news
about aliens from the tabloids.

Now we have the Internet for sensational if fictional headlines, and newspapers
and TV are for propaganda (of the flavor of your choice).

If it's not the way it was, it appears to be the way it's becoming.

Hmmm. I read a book about a guy who was "becoming". He wasn't sure what.

Maybe the question we should be asking is how do we make a reliable news
service that we can depend on?

Maybe an “aroma”?

And are all newspapers the private mouthpieces of billionaires now? Washington
Examiner is owned by Philip Anschutz. Washington Post is Bezos. New York Post
and Wall Street Journal are Murdoch. And so on down the list. I assume
newspapers aren’t profitable so they become vanity pieces for rich people?

If you go to the Examiner’s website and search for antifa it comes up with a
mountain of this stuff. So seems they do have a certain “theme”. A distinct
“flavor”.

Washington Examiner isn’t exactly the pride of the journalism profession, but
the article seems to be factual. Somebody posted information on a blog
alleging this guy was a fascist and racist. You can look at the blog and
decide if “Front Range Anti Fascists” is an organization (terrorist or
otherwise), or some rando with a blog. I don’t know. Maybe it’s 2 randos with
a blog.

I count myself as anti fascist, but I don't know anyone from antifa.

Don't know about the rest of y'all.

Antifa and organized in the same sentence is an oxymoron.
