I’m surprised it isn’t already in place. Not sure it even has to be “AI”, though we tend to use that term now for stuff that’s been around for years.
Seems like it could just alert the controller, not take any action on its own, which should avoid new safety or liability issues. I think commercial pilots already have a bunch of stuff like this in the cockpit like stall warnings and TCAS. I’m thinking like the side and rear collision alerts on modern cars, as opposed to lane keeping or self driving that actually take over control of the car. I have had this exact thing happen to me. They were trying to mate me with a landing lear jet. I personally reminded them I was still waiting take off clearance. They urgently told me to exit runway as fast as possible. I hit the grass between runways. Not my fault. Should have made the Lear go around. Since the language of ATC is standardized, the phrases are supposed to be said the exact same way every time, AI should be easily trained to learn what was being said. Same way for ground control. It could listen to the taxi clearances and then monitor ground radar and alert if a pilot missed a turn. If I was younger and smarter I would work on developing this app. Sounds like a good idea for a startup if someone is not already working on it.
