Bridge rectifier, capacitor, resistor. Three components. Transformer leads go into the AC side of the rectifier. The DC side has the capacitor and resistor across it. I would use a 1K resistor and a 10uF aluminum electrolytic capacitor. Make sure the polarity of the capacitor matches the output of the rectifier.

Then you have DC that is proportional to current.
