GPON technology is not housed in the SFP module as that is only the laser and diodes. The timing smarts central to GPON is on the board. Not saying Mikrotik couldn’t do it just that it is not a compatibility with a plug-in thing. I don’t know if GPON has been boiled down to a chipset and reference design yet. If so, then it could happen but it still wouldn’t be a plug-in.
10G XGPON 1 and 2 is not likely to be popular until 2016 or so. And then it will still need considerable time to see the prices of the new lasers to come down far enough to make it cost effective for the ONT. So you have a long wait for that one. How far away are we from seeing a gpon olt sfp module that would be mikrotik compatible? Would be nice to use a ccr 12s and be able to serve hundreds of customers. Seems like we aren't real close though ?
