I find the whole Uber vs taxi thing interesting from the common carrier standpoint. Given that some people want to reclassify us as common carriers.
I keep seeing that Uber rates customers as well as drivers, and if you as a customer get poor ratings from Uber drivers, you may be standing there forever waiting for a ride. Same if you are in a “bad” neighborhood. Whereas taxis are required to pick up anyone. Also that it doesn’t take much to get a poor rating from an Uber driver, like asking for the radio turned down or the windows closed. This does not seem to hurt the popularity of Uber, which seems to me like carpooling or hitchhiking with an app. But if Uber cuts seriously into taxi business, who will pick up the undesirable customers or the people who need a ride from an undesirable neighborhood, or in crappy weather. I admit I like not having to accept just anybody as a customer, and being able to fire customers, in fact I wish there was an app where WISPs could rate customers and the bad ones would essentially be blackballed. And I wonder if Title II would mean we have to serve anybody who calls. At least maybe that would mean we could post a cleanup fee for if you puke in the taxi.
