>Word on the street is "LTE or die" in the next 5 years, take your pick...
>Base station costs too much... $8-10k per sector, CPE's aren't bad through >$270'ish or something, ended up being what a 450SM plus reflector cost. For 8-10K you get 200 VDSL Ports capable of up to 100Mbit each. For 270 you get 2 VDSL IADs. So prices have to come down for sure. We are talking TDD-LTE which is not compatible with any system used in our country and we're talking 100Mbit/s at best for all Sector Users. Talking coverage looking at this pricing it is considerable to put some more towers make smaller cells and work with cheap wifi based gear. For 8-10K you'll get 8-10 Mimosa APs. For 270 you'll get 2-3 Mimosa CPEs. We're using expensive WiMAX gear only to reach some customers which might direct governement money elsewhere. We never earned money with this expensive stuff. And as we've learned this systems are getting old and timed out now like every wireless system does after a short time (and my ears remember the sales guys praising wimax). In our Country LTE is coming. But in FD-Flavor and in 800,1800MHz licensed country wide. They do 10x10 and 20x20. As with licensed gear doing FD is a complete different beast. In my opinion LTE-TDD Small Cell Systems might be worth double the price Mimosa is claiming and have to be in the region of Cambium 450.
