Could be male/female, but lately I've been leaning towards butt spliced pairs ( times four ).
I think it's faster for the installes to just cut both cables, do a quick separation of pairs and press splice the four pairs together. As opposed to punching down a female rj45 and putting a male rj45 end on. Maybe not, still debating.
