I thought the same thing.  Netscape added the www, then I switched to IE which 
didn’t, so I got in the habit of always typing it.

I remember as far back as Netscape - it automatically did the protocol:// but 
you needed to do foo.bar.com.  Are you going as far back as Mosaic or something?

My kids make fun of me because I still type "www" in front of any
website that I go to... anyone else remember the day when a website
would not load without the www in front? :)
