Why not just disable the second chain?

Can I safely put attenuators on the second chain to prevent the card from blowing up? My plan is to put an RB922UAGS-5HPacD + SFP in place of a messy fiber box I built. My only concern is that the second chain would need to be handled and the dish is only a single polarity. Replacing the dish/feedhorn is not financially realistic.
