What antenna and what frequency? PBE can’t do 5.1 or DFS yet, right? I worry
a bit that the Ubiquiti omnis I think are only spec’d down to 5.4.

We tried an International NBE-M5-19 set to to a different region code (Czech
Republic) to get an idea what the performance would be once the FW came out,
and could only get about –70 at 1700 feet with the 10 dBi omni on the M5
Rocket. Yes, it works, but that’s not going to be very robust, and that’s only
1/3 of a mile.

We are seeing 2 miles at 30’ with Powerbeam 400 clients.

Yeah, we’re only using them for a radius of less than 1 mile, and usually with
a CPE right at the repeater site, so the smaller antenna with more downtilt
seemed appropriate. I question whether that’s really a 10 dBi antenna though,
the range has been disappointing.

Why the Ubiquiti 10dbi instead of the 13dbi?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, but I’m not putting sectors at a legacy repeater site in a
tiny town with 6 subs which of course are in all different directions. The
site is currently 2.4 FSK and an omni with 7 degrees downtilt, but the 2.4
interference has become too bad.

I have been trying to use Rockets in U-NII-1 with the Ubiquiti 10 dBi omni, but
the range is really poor plus I’m tired of waiting for the SOON firmware for
the Beams. I also see home routers now coming preset to use channels 36-48 by
default (which makes sense), so U-NII-1 may not stay quiet in town.

Friends don't let friends use omnis ;)

Does anyone know if the KPP dual slant omni is an Alpha AW3089 or a knockoff?
And has anyone used either of them?

My experience with 5 GHz dual pol omnis has been disappointing, I'm wondering
if these bigger, more expensive omnis deliver better performance.

11 dBi isn't much if you can lose 3-5 dB at certain azimuths, another few dB
depending on frequency, and another 3 dB at zero elevation due to 4 degrees
electrical downtilt with an 8 degree beamwidth.

For $600+ and 6 inches diameter, I'd expect it to wash and wax my car.
