Pikes Peak is tall… and the path between there and Cheyenne, WY is relatively flat. But Pikes Peak is 9000ft+ AGL.
LOS certainly exists. On a clear day, I can see Pikes Peak from where I live which is about 80 miles away as the crow flies (and I feel like I can see the entire mountain from here).
