Probably not enough information to guess. Given the wording “increased the incidence of”, one could speculate that this issue has always occurred, either on some units or under some conditions, but with a low probability. I know I recently RMA’d a unit that intermittently showed this issue, and it was not on the serial number list.
“Factory process issue” could be like that Proton rocket where they put the part in backwards and hammered it to fit. It could just mean someone loaded the pick&place machine with a reel of the wrong parts. What I can’t figure out is the significance of the term “Catalina”. I can find an old DSP company called Catalina Research, but no indications it was absorbed into Analog Devices or sold technology to them. Maybe it’s a cat name, like Sierra or Harley.
