Some things I quickly found online:

http://www.kathrein-scala.com/tech_bulletins/MEdowntilt.pdf

http://commscope.com/docs/electrical-mechanical_downtilt_effect_on_pattern_performance_wp-103755.pdf

A quick glance at the Commscope seems to talk about variable electric tilt vs
fixed electrical tilt… but the concept is the same.

Thank you,

Maybe this is a good time to ask if there is a difference between “electrical”
and “mechanical” downtilt?

If not, then it’s not a big deal, other than the confusion of telling the tower
guys to uptilt the sector 2.5 degrees if you want 2.5 degrees downtilt.

But 120 degrees is a wide sector, and if “electrical” downtilt means like an
upside down ice cream cone, rather than like cranking down an awning, that
would be an important advantage. Because mechanical downtilt on a wide sector
has more effect in the middle than at the edges, plus it becomes very critical
that the sector is mounted absolutely plumb. Otherwise you can end up aiming
at birds on one side and worms on the other. Last time I checked, neither
birds nor worms pay for Internet.

That depends on a variety of factors right?

* What is the average distance of your clients to the AP?

*         Is there elevation changes?

* What is the AGL of the antenna?

* What is the AGL of the CPE?

* How far away is the next sector/tower?

Effectively it’s a geometry question. 4 degree downtilt seems standard on
carrier antennas though… but they also are trying to keep the cells smaller.

But 4 degrees downtilt on a sector with 7 degree vertical beamwidth seems
excessive unless you’re doing really small cells.

Alpha Wireless makes a great sector. Alpha is the antenna OEM for Telrad and
Airspan among others.

KP makes one - I haven't used them myself, but I've always only ever heard good
things about their antennas. I can't think of any others in 120 degree off hand.
