not just apps, but keep in mind the vast majority of phones and many tablets are 802.11n 1x1 devices (MCS7 max data rate). Even if you're sitting right next to the AP and have an RSL of -51 you will never see the same speed as on a 2x2 MCS15-connected laptop.
