I just need something to take identification (pin, biometric, etc.) and then keep a local database for importing into QuickBooks. I've found a couple of things, none that do tips as well though. I don't want mobile for my application.
I went through this same thing when I was looking for an iPad POS system. Every company wants to charge a monthly fee - because who doesn't want free recurring income? Finally found one that I could buy outright - it has paid for itself several times over.
