I couldn’t see the preview unless I had the password.
For some reason the alt code makes it impossible to open the file in excel but
preview showed the content.
But I still had the password.

I am not sure excel can be cracked by means other than brute force.

Keepass is a local client. Windows/Mac/Android/iPhone. I share the database
with Dropbox.

Also I believe MS Office Excel files you can strip the password requirement off
the file as if it didn't exist (ie how Chuck could see the preview).

If Keepass backs up to the cloud, the spreadsheet might be more secure.

Now is that better than a spreadsheet?

Try making it longer rather than strange. Make your password long not
cryptic. For good measure to pass stupid password tests put in a capital and
number but that doesn’t make it harder to crack. They are still going try
every combination including those characters just in case.

My oldest son is a computer security specialist / forensic guy.

He was telling my my super complicated password was not so secure.
He cracked it pretty easy. He suggested I add an alt code.

So I did. Now, neither one of us can open the file.
Guess alt codes in passwords for some Office products cause big
problems.

        Arrgh.....
