I'm looking to have an off site backup for a DVR System. Archive about
150gb of recorded video per day for a year. Only need to retrieve the
data if an incident is reported (Work Comp claim, maybe 1-2 per year)
and the video needs to be reviewed. 100mb upstream connection to the
net is not a problem. Looks like this is exactly what Glacier is good for.
If my math is right, it looks like it would increment about $22/month
for storage, so a full year of storage for about 40tb is $264/month.
For a 40tb Drobo array, ballpark $4000, that's a 20 month payback, not
including drive failure/replacement and maintenance/monitoring. Maybe
in 20 months those 20tb SSD drives will be affordable.
I've never worked with any of the AWS services, is this a solution worth
looking into? Can they sustain 100mb/s into Glacier, or would the
upload time kill me?
