Like many of you I typically have sworn by the steel shank/steel toe work boots for tower work... But as of the last couple years I have really started to move toward the ultra-light approach. I find myself a lot less exhausted after a day on the work site when I’ve removed loads of weight from my feet.
These are currently my tower shoe of choice: https://www.scarpa.com/zen-pro-mid-gtx They are scary light, but have enough support to not be an issue on ladders for me. If I need to sit around on a rung for extended periods I always have the integrated bosun chair on my harness to chill out on. I’ve used these for inclement weather backpacking and done 20 mile days in these things without discomfort or blisters.
