If the SSID is the same, the device will choose which AP to associate, just like if two 2.4 APs have same SSID. The logic on how to choose the AP and when to switch to another is device dependant and not always implemented well.
We set the SSID different and educate the customer to usually prefer the 5G if the device can see it. It gets too confusing and hard to troubleshoot when they are same SSID and the customer can't easily tell which band the device has chosen.
