You know, there are some common sense ideas that would allow "guests" to
work here legally while removing the "once you're put one toe on
American soil you're here to stay" mentality. Unfortunately, no
president from any party has even floated the idea that I am aware of.
Instead, immigrants, legal or otherwise, are permanent political pawns
to to anger the susceptible.

I hope American teenagers are excited about all the lettuce farm, pig
farm, lawnmowing and slaughterhouse jobs that will be opening up. You
know, the same teenagers who won’t take a job at McDonalds selling
burgers. More likely we will just import the lettuce and pork chops
from Mexico. Already a lot of the produce at the grocery store is
from places like Chile.
Maybe robots will replace illegal aliens, and that van can carry 15
robots to pick lettuce or do whatever yucky things they do to pigs.
It’s hard to tell with pigs, they squeal no matter what. Pat them on
the head and feed them chocolate, or cut off body parts, either way
they squeal like it’s the end of the world.
