It depends somewhat on how you look at it... he did win three states that almost nobody expected him to win (MI, WI and PA), and winning any one of those would have been enough to win the election. The expectation was that if he did win, it would only be by a few electoral votes, so the fact that there was a margin of 30+ isn't just barely from his point of view. Yes, a relatively small number of votes in only a few states could've flipped the election, but as far as electoral votes go, I wouldn't call it just barely winning (certainly not a landslide either, though). He did win several states that a republican hasn't won in several decades, and that is something of an accomplishment.
