Going through several trees is bad. Shooting up at the AP is also bad – depending on how high AGL the AP is you may be outside the vertical beamwidth of the AP. So it is going to be difficult to make solid recommendations.
That said, 12 dB does seem like a lot of variation. Trees blowing in the wind? Maybe the SM is picking up a reflected signal instead of (or in addition to) the direct signal? It also sounds strange to hear there is minimal 2.4 interference. Usually 2.4 interference is everywhere, if only because of all the home WiFi gear. But that shouldn’t change your signal level. From: Af [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Jordan Gregory Sent: Saturday, February 18, 2017 12:26 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [AFMUG] Cambium signal strength wavering a lot Good afternoon, We have a customer with an integrated ePMP 1000 2.4 SM that is less than a quarter mile from our tower. Her signal strength fluctuates between -67 to -79 but the SNR remains constant at around 24. MCS varies quite a bit as well. There is minimal interference in the area, so I don't feel like a force 200 is necessary. It's not a totally clean shot (a few trees and whatnot - so probably categorized as nLOS), but it's close enough that they shouldn't be a problem. I have other customers using the same equipment with sketchier shots that have less trouble. We are running firmware 3.0.1. Anyone have any suggestions to stabilize this link?
